Vaginal Yeast Infections

There are many types of yeast infections that can affect a woman throughout her life. Though Candida can overgrow and affect certain parts of the body such as the mouth, tongue, throat or even the joints, the most common form of a yeast infection takes place in the vagina.

Vaginal yeast infections occur when a woman's body undergoes stressful conditions which in turn make her internal organisms fall out of balance. Since the vagina is the warmest and moistest part of a woman's body, bacteria tends to find a home quite regularly in this area. As a matter of fact, there are plenty of good bacterias living in the vagina which are kept in balance by a sound immune system. The instance an inbalance occurs, Candida Albicans, one the most common bacterias found in the vagina, begins to overgrow. When this happens, the Candida albicans take over control of the vagina and begin spawning an excess amount of yeast which sets the stage for what we call a vaginal yeast infection.

The best way to avoid a vaginal yeast infection is by maintaining a strong immune system so that your body will have less chances of falling out of whack. You can achieve this by following a healthy diet of vegetables, nuts, fruits, and uncooked oils accompanied by a moderation of whole grain wheats and oats, brown rice, and lean meats. Stay away from red meat, dairy, and any type of fast food or refined sugars and sweets.

A great natural way to cure vaginal yeast infections is to consume plenty of unsweetened yogurts. Studies have shown that the lactobacillus acidophilus contained in unsweetened yogurt helps fight off the bacteria of a vaginal yeast infection.

Some women take this step a bit further and actually apply unsweetened yogurt directly onto their vagina. Since lactobacillys acidophilus is a good bacteria found in healthy vaginas, adding some reinforcements to the mix will help treat the condition faster. I know it sounds a bit messy but you can rest assured that the instance you apply the yogurt onto the affected area of your vagina, you will experience an almost instant relief from the itching and burning symptoms.

There are other types of vaginal yeast infection cures that you can purchase over the counter as well. Many of them come in the form of tablets, suppositories or vaginal creams. All have been proven to work effectively against the majority of vaginal yeast infections. However there are some more severe cases in which prescription medicine may be required. For this reason, it is always a good idea to consult your doctor or gynocologist before self diagnosis.

Ultimately you want to avoid wearing tight jeans or any type of nylon material which traps in moisture around your vagina. Stay away from douching. This type of hygenical procedure removes the good bacteria living in your vagina which helps maintain balanced levels of Candida which can result in future vaginal infections. Last but not least, if you are diagnosed with a vaginal yeast infection, do not have sexual intercourse until you are completely cured of the condition so that you won't risk spreading the infection to your partner.
