Male Yeast Infection
While a vaginal yeast infection is quite common amongst women, a male yeast infection can occur from time to time. Usually, this condition can be transmitted from partner to partner during sexual intercourse. This is not to say that a yeast infection is considered to be a sexually transmitted disease, but if your spouse or partner is suffering from a yeast infection, chances are you will contract it through sex.
The symptoms of a male yeast infection are pretty much the same of a woman's. You will experience the exact burning sensation during urination, itching and irritation around the crotch area and pain while having sex. Expect the rash to develop right on the head of the penis or along the shaft. It is definitely an uncomfortable and embarrassing situation for a male and it is important to seek treatment right away. The best way to know if you have contracted a male yeast infection is by scheduling a visit with your doctor. Only your doctor will know for sure if you are suffering from this condition or if you have contracted an STD instead.
The problem with treating male yeast infections without consulting your doctor first is that one can never be sure if you are indeed suffering from one. Male yeast infections can be confused with genital herpes which is far more severe condition. Again only your doctor will be able to make that determination.
In the meantime, there are somethings that you can do to help alleviate your conditions. Most if not all of the over the counter vaginal yeast infection medications can have positive effects in treating male yeast infections. Ofcourse you may not feel too comfortable using these types of treatments but this does not mean that they will not work, especially if you purchase yeast infection creams or tablets.
Although many men feel too embarassed to consult their doctor about these types of conditions, I cannot stress the importance of this enough. You do not want to take the risk that your condition is something far worse. However I do recommend practicing some natural remedies for alleviating your infection while waiting for your appointment with your doctor.
For starters, begin by changing into some loose comfortable pants or cotton shorts. Yeast infections occur in moist warm areas so those tight stylish jeans have to go!
Get some exercise such as jogging, cycling or swimming to boost your immune system but keep in mind if you go swimming NOT to stay with your wet bathing suit on for too long after you are done. Quickly dry yourself off and change into some cotton underwear.
At night, make an attempt to sleep with no underwear so that your infected area remains well ventilated while you sleep.
Make a change in your diet and completely eliminate alcohol consumption, red meat, dairy, refined sugars and junk food. Consume more vegetables and whole grains and high fiber organic products.
Finally, if you truly feel that you have contracted a yeast infection, practice abstinence until you consult your doctor and get the right male yeast infection treatment. The last thing you will want to do is pass your infection back and forth between you and your partner.
